Friday 08, 2013, Gurgaon, On the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, Gurgaon First and Artemis Hospitals honoured and felicitated city women who have made a positive difference to the city by their talent, or selfless contribution and helped improve the quality of life and environment around us. In the process, they have brought smiles, transformed lives and been a source of inspiration to all.
“We did a rigorous exercise of finding the most deserving candidates to get this award and recognition. Prominent residents of Gurgaon were asked to propose names and an “independent jury” has made the final selection. The motivation behind the awards is purely to inspire others on the path towards excellence. The awardees are women who have excelled in field such as social service, music, sports, education, public service and corporate life” said Shubhra Puri, Founder, Gurgaon First.
In all, 14 women were felicitated from diverse fields such as social service, music, sports, education, public service and corporate life.
The event called “Joie de Vivre ” – Celebrating the Joys of being a Women – recognised the talent, applauded the good work and allowed women to let their hair down in an evening filled with music, poetry and cheer. The Chief Guest of the evening was Ms Shanti Hiranand, the noted Padmashree recipient in the field of classical music and a resident of Gurgaon. Dr Devlina Chakravarty, COO and Director, Medical Services delivered the keynote address at the event.
The award winners were Ms Shanti Hiranand (noted singer) Bharti Arora (Superintendent of Police – State Crime), Nisha Singh (councillor Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon), Mrs Kamal Capoor, (Founding Principal-The Happy School), Harita Gupta (General Secretary, Lok Kalyan Samiti), Latika Thukral and Swanzal Kapoor ( Founding Members of NGO, I am Gurgaon), Dr Leena Srivastava (Executive Director, TERI), Deepa Antil ( President, Nari Panchayat) Dr Kalpana Viswanath (Senior Advisor, Jagori), Arti Jaimen ( Founder, Gurgaon Ki Awaaz), Jyotsana Rana (Artist), Pooja Chaudhary (Hockey Player) and Veena Gupta (Security Expert). All the awardees are residents of Gurgaon.
The event was held at Artemis Hospital Auditorium. The award ceremony was followed by a cultural programme. Some of the performers in the evening were Jyotsana Rana, Aditi Iyer, Deepa Antil, Mrs Prem Begwani and Dr Nalini Bhargava.
