Championing Sustainable Living with the ‘Crockery Bank for Everyone’

Meet Sameera Satija, a Gurgaon resident and passionate advocate for sustainable living. As an auditor with a keen eye for environmental issues, Sameera recognised the growing problem of disposable waste at events and decided it was time for action.

Her journey began with educational workshops encouraging people to reduce their use of disposable items. In 2018, inspired by the reusability practices of Gurudwaras, Sameera launched the Crockery Bank for Everyone. This simple yet impactful initiative promotes borrowing steel utensils for events, free of charge, under the principle: Take-Use-Wash-Dry-Return.

Sameera’s first success came on Nirjala Ekadashi, where she distributed 100 steel glasses, preventing 7,000 plastic items from polluting the environment. Since then, her initiative has gained momentum, helping avoid an incredible 370,000 plastic items from entering landfills.

Recognised under the ‘Sustainability Vision: 2030’ by the Ministry of Steel, the Crockery Bank for Everyone has inspired 32 similar initiatives across India. Sameera’s work is a shining example of how individual actions can create a ripple effect for a more sustainable society.

Let’s follow Sameera’s lead. Borrow steel utensils, reduce disposable waste, and start crockery banks in your area to make a real difference. Together, we can build a cleaner, greener future!
