Sustainability Project
The Wazirabad-Chakkarpur Bundh is a joint effort by IAmGurgaon and the Haryana Forest Department, turning a neglected 5.2 km area in Gurugram into an eco-friendly haven. This restoration project transformed the bundh into a green corridor, enhancing the cityscape. The project started by cleaning the storm water drain by removing almost 200 trucks’ worth of silt and plastic waste. This waste was repurposed for bundh construction. Solar lighting system was adopted. The project also involved planting of 30,000 native trees and shrubs contributing to aesthetics, biodiversity, and groundwater replenishment. The Chakkarpur-Wazirabad bundh is now a pathway for one and all, with ramps for easy access, creating a friendly community space. It is being used by walkers, cyclists, and also promotes safe mobility for women, children and visually impaired. With 30,000 trees, including 30 native species, it’s a place for nature enthusiasts. The bundh also has a rainwater facility to save water. It also brings back history and nature, setting an example for city improvements. The bundh is lit up in the evening with solar lighting.
