Making Women Safe at Public and Work Places

Gurgaon First organised a workshop titled “Making Women Safe in Public and Work Places” attended
by over 150 participants from RWAs, NGOs, corporates and residents of Gurgaon. The workshop talked
about public safety as well as explained the Sexual Harassment of women at Work Places Act 2013 in detail.
The New Police Commissioner of Gurgaon Mr Sandeep Khirwar addressed the gathering. He talked about multi-pronged
approach to address the issue of women safety involving the civic administration, RWAs, NGOs and the Police. He
talked about growing number of senior police officers in Gurgaon as well as women police stations with better
training to police officers to address women-related issues. He also informed the house that adequate street
lighting and city bus service were the need of the hour. He also talked about the plans to put more CCTVs in
Malls and residential colonies. The Police Commissioner talked about a new App which is shortly to be launched
by the Police Department on women safety. Other speakers were Gurgaon’s Local Complaints’ Committee (LCC) chairperson
Ms Anuradha Sharma and Dr Kalpana Viswanath, co-founder, Safetipin.
