Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) serve as vital links between city administration and local communities. Functioning as miniature city administrations, RWAs oversee essential services such as waste management, water infrastructure, street lighting, roads, parks, and neighborhood security. Beyond infrastructure, RWAs play a pivotal role in nurturing the socio-cultural and welfare fabric of their communities.
Gurgaon is home to a strong network of over 400 RWAs, each making a unique contribution to the city’s growth and vibrancy. RWAs may be registered either as Societies or Owners Associations, based on the nature of their colony or housing setup:
  • Plotted Colonies: Registered under the Haryana Registration and Regulation of Societies Act, 2012.
  • Apartment Complexes (Cooperative and Group Housing): Registered under the Haryana Apartment Ownership (HAO) Act, 1983.

Many RWAs in Gurgaon have emerged as champions of sustainability, driving initiatives in:
  • Waste segregation and management
  • Sewage treatment
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Solar energy adoption
  • Stormwater recharge structures
  • Green landscaping and tree plantation
The effectiveness of an RWA depends on its ability to prioritize, implement actionable plans, and foster engaged, like-minded resident communities. This requires strong collaboration between residents and local authorities.
  1. Residents can support their RWA by electing responsible representatives and actively participating in community efforts.
  2. City administration plays its role by enabling regular dialogue, offering technical support, and sharing best practices across RWAs.
  • DLF Phase 1 RWA – Active in solar panel installations and park development.
  • Sushant Lok 1 RWA – Known for water body restoration and traffic management.
  • South City 1 RWA – Focused on community health programs and rainwater harvesting.
Apartment Complex RWAs
  • Heritage City RWA – Leading waste segregation and composting efforts.
  • Ireo Uptown RWA – Solar energy adoption and secure gated-community initiatives.
  • Vatika City RWA – Renowned for efficient waste water treatment and cultural events.
