Function: Planning, Infrastructure Development
The Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) was established in 2017 under the Haryana Metropolitan Development Authorities Act to serve as the key planning and development agency for the Gurgaon Metropolitan Area. GMDA’s mandate focuses on ensuring sustained, balanced urban growth and enhancing the overall quality of life in the region.
Its core responsibilities include integrated urban planning, infrastructure development, mobility and transport management, provision of urban amenities, and promoting the sustainable management of natural and built environments. GMDA also manages master municipal services such as the water supply, main sewage network, and arterial road infrastructure. Key projects spearheaded by GMDA include the development of the Dwarka Expressway, implementation of the Gurgaon Integrated Transport Management System (GITMS), and advancing the Metro Rapid Transit System (MRTS) to improve regional connectivity.
